Hideki Matsui, or Godzilla as he was nicknamed in Japan, came to the New York Yankees in 2003. After playing his entire career with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan, Matsui left Japan having amassed 1,390 hits, 332 HR, 889 RBI and a .304 lifetime average. With the reputation of being a Home Run hitter and an RBI machine, Matsui didn't disappoint in his 2003 debut on a cold April day in the Bronx, hitting an RBI single in his first at-bat and adding a memorable Grand Slam in the 5th inning on Opening Day vs. Minnesota Twins. Since his debut in 2003, Matsui has gone on to hit over 160 Major League HR and 700 RBI, appear in two All Star Games (2003, 2004) and became the first Japanese Player to hit a HR in the World Series. Matsui went on to carry the Yankees on his back in the 2009 World Series, hitting .615 with 3 HR and 8 RBI, winning the 2009 WS MVP award in the process, Even though his playing days in New York are over, Matsui remains a fan favorite.
