After a standout career at Notre Dame, Bleier was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and an even more powerful team, the U.S. Army. Bleier promptly went to serve in Viet Nam. An ambush left him severely wounded in the left thigh and right leg, and people wondered if a career in football was still within his grasp. It was. Bleier worked his way back and joined the Steelers, where he helped lead them to four Super Bowl titles.
