It has been a very active past few seven days since my last post. We had opening day at both stadiums as well as several exciting signings including Joba Chamberlain, Yogi Berra, Don Larsen and Doc Gooden. I will be getting into the first few appearances later but want to spend some time now talking about Gooden....any time there is an opportunity to talk Mets in this forum I obviously jump at it. Friday Doc did an appearance at Last Licks Scarsdale in conjunction with opening day of Scarsdale Little League (which was Saturday). It truly was one of the best, most kid friendly signings we have ever done. Dwight, who loves children, showed kids the different grips on baseballs and took photos with everyone. The adults in attendance (mostly Mets fans) were completely ecstatic to meet arguably the greatest pitcher we have ever had in this city (84,85 were better years than anyone has ever had here...with all due respect to Gator's magical yeat). After the final customer had left Doc stuck around to watch several innings of the Met game. Ironically enough- literally five minutes after Dwight departed his nephew Gary Sheffield hit his 500th homerun. I immediately called Doc who , as I suspected, was listening on the radio. It absolutely without a doubt meant so much more to both the uncle and nephew that the milestone was achieved in Flushing.
The following day Dwight threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Scarsdale Little League. It was a great moment at the kids and parents loved it. Last Licks has been doing the Little League opening for several years now and this was undoubtedly the most exciting one yet. I captured almost all of it on video so be sure to check it out once I get it posted.
I am off to Yankee Stadium so have to cut this one short....more to come this afternoon...

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. It was my first full weekend off in months and basically spent it getting aggravated by the Mets with a quick trip to Brodeur's home in Jersey in between games. With all that in mind we have a huge week kicking off right now. Today is the Mets home opener at Citi Field. I will be there tonight (minus my staple Oliver Perez jersey...can't take that kind of abuse first game of the season) and hopefully will have some great video to post here tomorrow. Thursday the Yankees open their new ballpark. While I will not be in attendance I will be making several trips to the stadium (just like I did the past few weeks) to drop off product and make sure our new store - Yankee Steiner Collectibles- is ready for the first home stand. It really is an unbelievable store and, from what I have heard, many customers during the pre-season games mistook it for a museum (that's how impressive the product is in there).
Then on Friday we have an appearance with Doc Gooden at Last Licks Scarsdale. This signing is tied into the opening of Scarsdale Little League as Dwight is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch Saturday morning. Dwight was, far and away, my favorite player as a kid. The energy at Shea when Pedro pitched his first few years here (which was pretty special) pales in comparison to the deafening noise when Doc took the hill in the '80s.
After the Little League opener Saturday morning I will be heading straight over to Last Licks Rye where perennial appearance All-Stars Don Larsen and Yogi Berra will be signing from 12:00-1:30. It is always a blast when these two appear at the ice cream stores (especially together). Don and Yogi are a true must have for any collector (let alone Yankee enthusiast). While most of you probably already own pieces signed by Larsen and Berra we now carry the new Inaugural Season Yankee Stadium baseball. There aren't many (if any) of these out there yet signed by the pair.
That brings us to Sunday where, after the Yankee game, Joba Chamberlain will be signing at The Steiner Store in Roosevelt Field Mall. It will most likely start at around 5:30. We don't have many Yankees appearances out in Long Island anymore (most are in Manhattan or Westchester) so it should be a great event....always is when Joba is involved.
I am quite certain too that there will even be a few more signings this week as both teams are home to christen new ballparks.

I recently had the opportunity to do a signing with former Mets hero Mookie Wilson. Watch here as Mookie takes a moment to share his thoughts on Bill Buckner.

Last week we had an appearance with Devils stars Zach Parise and Travis Zajac. As we all know there has been a ton of excitement surrounding the Devils this season not only for their spectacular regular season and high hopes for the upcoming playoffs but also for the individual accomplishments of Marty Brodeur. This was the first time we had brought any of the young Devils players out to Long Island. The appearance took place at the Steiner Store and surprisingly enough (in the heart of Islanders country) there was a decent turnout. I was able to (using my new toy) get some outstanding video of both Zach and Travis talking about memorabilia as well as what it was like to be on the ice when Marty broke the coveted win record.
Also, on the way out we ran into the Easter bunny and could not pass up a photo op.

Saturday was our appearance at Last Licks NYC with Yankee immortal Paul O'Neill. I have been doing signing with Paul for years and always look forward to them. Paul is one of my all time favorites to talk baseball with. He is extremely knowledgable and that translates 35 plus times a year on air (where he is one of two Yankee announcers I actually enjoy watching). Paul, as do most, knows I am a die-hard Mets fan. While every other person's first question to O'Neill was something relating to the new stadium mine was simply "Do you think Sheff can still rake?". Anyway, it was a tremendous appearance with some very passionate fans in attendance... none more enthusiastic than the two in the video I have posted here.
I have seen the tattoo autograph thing several times but not in a few years. The first time I had witnessed an athlete autograph a body part to later be tattooed was Reggie Jackson in Huntington years ago. I recall trying to convince the customer to buy a few inscriptions so that his arm would not only have Reggie's sig but also "Mr. October, HOF, 563 Hr's". That day he did not have Reggie inscribe but a few signings later the guy actually came back to add "Mr. October" and "HOF" to his arm.

I am finally up and running at our new warehouse. This space is absolutely incredible. Hopefully I will be posting a virtual tour in the near future. It took a while to get settled in...thus the lack of blog posts...but am now fully functioning (computer, phone and all). Last week was, ironically considering the move, the busiest in quite some time. Be on the look out for new posts and videos over the next few days as I will attempt to get you all up to speed.
