The small forward put his talent on display immediately after beginning high school and continued to improve through the years while also leading Nicolet High School to the Division 2 State Championship. With the accolades adding up, Johnson was rated as a consensus five-star and top-15 recruit in the country. Headlining their 2020 signing class, he played college ball with the Duke Blue Devils and came charging out of the gate with 19 points and 19 rebounds in his first game. With an average of 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in his lone college season, Johnson declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. On draft day, the Atlanta Hawks selected him in the first round with the 20th overall pick, a moment he said he dreamed of his entire life.
