After sitting out his first season due to injury, Porter made his debut in the 2019-20 season and immediately made an impact. In their second consecutive playoff appearance, the Nuggets reached the Western Conference Finals. Knowing they were on the brink of being a championship team, Denver made a big splash in the 2020-21 season, trading for forward Aaron Gordon. The Nuggets returned to the playoffs that season as they became a mainstay in the NBA Playoffs. The 2022-23 season is when everything came into place and the Nuggets cemented themselves among the best teams in the NBA. Behind Gordon's 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, and Porter Jr.'s 17.4 points, and 5.5 rebounds per game, Denver secured the number overall seed in the Western Conference with a 53-29 record.
