Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer of all-time. On this day, as we look back at the five-year anniversary of him breaking the all-time saves record, we also remember this sit-down he had with Brandon Steiner where he talked about his upbringing in Panama.
His parents couldn't afford most material things, so when Rivera began to develop a passion for baseball, he did anything he could to play the game, which included cutting a glove out cardboard to use.
"I was the happiest kid in the neighborhood with this thing," he told Steiner as he demonstrated how to make one of his cardboard masterpieces.
It doesn't get more real than this. Mariano Rivera, truly the greatest of all-time.
