NBA and its Players Release Powerful Video Message on Opening Night

Basketball “unites us. It reminds us that no matter where we come from, no matter our differences, there’s only one way to work through our challenges — together.”

A powerful message coming from the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association in light of the recent events of racial contention in this country.

A video clip was released by the NBA today, just hours before the new season tips off and includes stars Dwyane Wade, Kyle Korver, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony narrating.

In recent days, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was questioned on whether or not he believes some NBA players would kneel or sit for the national anthem, akin to the protests that have gone on in the NFL. In an interview with Bleacher Report, he replied:

“I’m past the gestures,” Anthony said. “I’m past that. It’s all about creating things now and putting things in motion. So, that’s what I’m on. I’m trying to get guys on board with that and help them understand that—enough of the gesturing and talking and all of that stuff—we need to start putting things in place."

This looks to be the first step in that process.
