Taurasi Breaks All-Time Scoring Record

Diana Taurasi made history on Sunday night by becoming the leading scorer in WNBA history. She drove through past a few defenders and cut into the lane, where she finished a layup from the right block to record the historic basket.

With the layup, she passed WNBA legend Tina Thompson, who had previously held the record with 7,488 points after her illustrious 17-year career.

Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury were ironically facing the Los Angeles Sparks, one of Thompson's former teams, in Los Angeles.  LA Sparks star Candace Parker immediately came up and congratulated her before she was honored at half court. Also (quite fittingly) Taurasi hails from California, so she was able to play in front of all of her friends and family while breaking the record on Father's Day.

Another well-known Los Angeles hero, Kobe Bryant, was in attendance to witness the accomplishment. After the game he applauded Taurasi and her career.  "Her work ethic and her body of work, it's extremely consistent. She works very hard," Bryant said. "To be that great for so many years is a testament to her work ethic and commitment to the game."

LeBron James extended his congratulations to the new WNBA scoring leader as well, via Twitter:

Taurasi finished the night with 19 points in a loss to the Sparks.

So, we ask, who is the best WNBA player of all-time? Vote below!
