Dwayne Wade earned himself one of he best nicknames that one has ever received—he was called “flash” during his playing days.


Wade was born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. He had a bit of a rough childhood but could always turn to sports in order to get away from all the negative things going on his life. Wade was a superstar wide receiver in high school and seemed like he was on his way to be playing football in college and not basketball. After a four-inch growth spurt in between his sophomore and junior years, his basketball game grew very quickly. He averaged just under 21 points and 8 rebounds in his junior and followed that up with a 27 point per game and 11 rebound per game campaign his senior season. In the standout senior season, he set a school record for points in a single season as well as steals in a single season.


Wade decided to further his basketball career at the Marquette University, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He had an immediate impact, as he led the team in points as well as lead the conference in steals, as well as leading the school to their best record in 10 years. His second year playing at Marquette was even more electric. He would lead Marquette to their first Final Four appearance in more than 25 years. He was also named to the All-America First Team.


Wade would be selected 5th overall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Miami Heat. He would make an immediate impact has he led the Heat to a playoff appearance while he also earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Team. Wade would quickly be recognized as the face of Miami Heat basketball. In only his third year, he led the Heat to an NBA championship with a series win over the Dallas Mavericks and was awarded with the NBA Finals MVP trophy. The performance he put on in that series is looked at as one of the greatest Finals performances of all time. Wade would continue to make opponents fear playing his for many years to come, as he would go on to reach four more NBA Finals and winning two more NBA Championships.


Dwayne Wade is a player that will never be forgotten when thinking of the best NBA players of this generation. He actually finished his career with a 25-point triple-double in his last career game. Wade finished his career with three NBA Championships, One Finals MVP, thirteen All-Star appearances, eight All-NBA team nominations, and even an NBA scoring title.
