Hailing from the baseball hotbed of Miami, Florida J.D. Martinez has ascended to one of the great sluggers in major league baseball today. A 20th round draft pick of the Houston Astros in 2009 out of Nova Southeastern University, Martinez made his Major League Debut with Houston in 2011 following the trade of Hunter Pence to the Philadelphia Phillies.

After 2 seasons with the Astros, Martinez was released and would eventually sign a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers before the start of the 2014 season. Martinez would dominate during his brief stint in Triple-A before being called up in mid-April by the Tigers, following his call-up J.D, went on to hit 23 Home Runs with 76 RBI's all to the tune of a .315 batting average and nominated for American League comeback player of the year. In 2015 Martinez took home his first American League Silver Slugger award as the best offensive player at his position.


Following the 2016 season in which J.D. was hampered by injuries, In 2017 Martinez would put together his best offensive season with the Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks who acquired Martinez during the July trading deadline. In total Martinez would belt 45 Home Runs, drive 104 runs and hit at an average of .303

Regarded as the best free-agent hitter on the market during the 2017-18 hot stove season, J.D. signed a five year, $110 million, contract with the Boston Red Sox to solidify the middle of their lineup.
