Joe Girardi is a baseball lifer. A Chicago native Joe attended Northwestern University and was drafted by the hometown Chicago Cubs in the 1986 Major League draft. Girardi would make his major league debut with the Cubs in 1989, spending three seasons in the friendly confines of Wrigley field until being selected by the upstart Colorado Rockies in the 1992 Major League Baseball expansion draft.

Following a three year stint in Colorado, the New York Yankees traded for Joe before the start of the 1996 season. Girardi was Doc Gooden's battery-mate for Gooden's no-hitter on May 14th, 1996. In the 1996 World Series, it was Girardi's triple in Game 6 that sparked the Yankees offense in a 3 to 2 over the Atlanta Braves and Made the Yankees World Series Champions.

Girardi would go on to win two more World Series with the Yankees as a player in 1998 and 1999. Girardi returned to the Chicago Cubs in 2000, where he was an All-Star at catcher. In 2003 Girardi retired after a brief stint with the St. Louis Cardinals

After spending some time as a baseball analyst for the YES network and Fox Sports, Girardi was named the manager for the Florida Marlins before the start of the 2006 Season, where he was named National League manager of the year and Sports News manager of the year for his outstanding work with a rebuilding Marlins club.

After a year away from bench, Girardi replaced the legendary Joe Torre as manager of the New York Yankees before the 2008 season. The following year he would lead the Yankees to their 27th Championship when the club defested the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2009 World Series.

Girardi's leadership at the helm of america's greatest sports franchise has made them a World Series contender year after year.
