Rob Gronkowski is arguably the most dominant tight end to ever play in the National Football League.

Gronkowski—better known as Gronk—was born in upstate New York. He comes from a family of athletes as his father was an offense lineman for Syracuse University, his great grandfather was a cyclist for the United States Olympic team, and all four of his brothers played either professional football or professional baseball at some point.  After being a three-sport athlete himself in high school, he decided to go with the route of football, as he was named to an All-State him his junior year before his family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania prior to his senior year where he was awarded with All-American honors.

Gronkowski chose to play his college football at the University of Arizona after receiving more than a handful of division I offers. He was named a freshman All-American following his freshman years where he racked up more than 500 receiving yards. He would continue to improve as he received All-Pac-10 honors after his sophomore season as well as being named a third team All-American.

Gronk would be drafted by the New England Patriots in the early stages of the second round of the 2010 NFL and was known to be the best overall player on some teams’ draft boards. Gronkowski was a force to be reckoned from day 1 in the NFL. He scored ten touchdowns during his rookie campaign, which was the most by a rookie tight end since the NFL-AFL merger. Gronk would be Tom Brady’s favorite topic of the next eight years. Each season that Gronkowski was healthy for a majority of the season, he would score no less than 8 touchdowns while hauling in the most touchdowns in a single season by a tight end in NFL history with 18 scores.

While Gronkowski retired following the Patriots victory in Superbowl LIII victory, he will not be forgotten any time soon. Gronkowski helped New England win three Superbowl’s while also making five pro bowls and being named to four first team All-Pro teams.  There may never be a more impressive tight end to ever step on the field.
