2018 Year in Review

To start off the New Year, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America welcomed four new members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame: Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome and Trevor Hoffman.

In one of the most watched sporting events of the year, backup quarterback Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII. With their first Super Bowl in franchise history, the team named Foles their SuperBowl MVP.

For the first time since 1968, all 30 Major League Baseball teams played on the same day. This day was March 29th, also the earliest start for the league season in story. The New York Yankees opened their year under new Skipper, Aaron Boone, at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

We held one of our biggest public signings with 10 New York Yankees. The lineup consisted of: veteran CC Sabathia, Aaron Hicks, Chad Green, Tommy Kahnle and Sonny Gray. Four recently-traded players were also at the event, Tyler Austin (Minnesota), Brandon Drury (Toronto), Ronald Torreyes (Minnesota) and Adam Warren (Seattle).

We observed “May the Fourth” day and celebrated George Lucas’s Star Wars franchise. Our Star Wars Collection includes items signed by Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse and more.

Steiner Sports Exclusive Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for back-to-back NBA Championship Titles. We released a special collection of Stephen Curry-signed 2018 NBA Finals products to celebrate.

We welcomed Ralph Machio and Billy Zabka to our Garden City store for public signing. The duo is better known as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from “The Karate Kid.” This signing added to our collection of signed movie posters and memorabilia for the classic film.

DeAndre Ayton, the first overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, joined our family of Steiner Exclusive Athletes. Through his first few months in the NBA, the rookie remains a star player in the Phoenix Suns’ offense.

The world watched as Tiger Woods made his comeback to the top of the golf world. Tiger won the Tour Championship by two strokes to capture his first major title win in five years. Be sure to check out the rest of our golf collectibles.

The most historic rivalry in sports took the spotlight in October. The 2018 New York Yankees celebrated a dominant Wild Card win over the Oakland Athletics, but their postseason run ended in the ALDS against eventual-champion, the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox defeated the Dodgers, 4-1, to take home the trophy. Shop our exclusive lineup of commemorative 2018 World Series signed products.

End of season awards kept fans on the edges of their seats. New Steiner Sports Exlusive Christian Yelich won the National League MVP Title and a Silver Slugger Award. Shohei Ohtani won American League Rookie of the Year over finalists Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres.

We’re closing out a great year by offering our loyal customers 25% off game-used items and 30% off of applicable autographed items. Cheers to the new year!
