With a tear-filled hug from his teammates and an infamous cap-tip, Mariano “Mo” Rivera said his goodbye to baseball. Now five years later, baseball will never say goodbye to him. As the first unanimous inductee, Rivera’s illustrious, 19-year career with the New York Yankees will be memorialized in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Although he has made 13 All-Star appearances and earned World Series, All-Star and ALCS MVP titles, his legacy is his MLB-records for All-Time Games Finished and All-Time Regular Season Saves. With 652 regular season saves and 42 postseason saves, the equivalent of two full seasons for an average closer, Mariano Rivera will not just be remembered as a Hall of Famer, but as the greatest closer of all time.
