It was July 1, 2004. Yankees vs. Red Sox, a crucial game for the AL East rivals. Derek Jeter went back on an angle to his right, sprinted towards the baseball falling in the short outfield and caught it before diving into the stands along the left field foul line at Yankee Stadium. Bloodied and bruised, Jeter emerged from the seats to the joyful roars of a boisterous crowd. He saved two runs in the 12th inning of a crucial game against the Boston Red Sox. And of course, he was in the lineup the next night.
This play, "The Dive" as it came to be know, would stand as one of the most iconic moments in Jeter's career.
