Wayne Gretzky Memorabilia
There was no one like him when he played, there has been no one like him since he retired. Wayne Gretzky truly is “The Great One”.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Gretzky has a pure natural talent at a young age that was obvious to his peers. He was consistently playing minor hockey at a level much higher than his peers. While he was smaller and less athletic than most players whom he played with, his intelligence is what made him special as he knew exactly when, where, and how each play needed to be executed. To further his career, his family moved to Toronto where Gretzky would be able to strengthen his Hockey Skills and have an opportunity to play in the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.
In 1978, Gretzky signed with the Indianapolis Racers, who were a part of the World Hockey Association, but was soon after traded to the Edmonton Oilers. His first full year with the Oilers—which was their first year in the NHL, resulted in an MVP for Gretzky. He would continue his special play, and go on to win the next seven MVP awards after that. During that first year, Gretzky also became the youngest player ever to score 50 goals. During his career, he would also win seven straight scoring titles.
Gretzky was also a winner. He led the Oilers to win five Stanley Cup trophies in just a seven-year span. Wherever Gretzky played, his team performed at a much higher clip. He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988, and they started the season with their best start ever, as well as defeating his former team in the conference semi-finals that same year. To this day, Gretzky Is still the NHL’s leading scorer by a wide margin, as well as holding 61 NHL records. He was the greatest player the sport of Hockey will ever see_x000D_
